Murray Resources is seeking a hands-on Accountant for a prominent restaurant group who will lead daily accounting operations, maintain the general ledger, manage accounts payable, and coordinate with the CPA for annual filings. The role requires strong attention to detail and deep knowledge of sales tax reporting.

The position is onsite in Houston, TX with a salary range of $95,000 to $110,000 per year, plus benefits.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of full cycle accounting experience in small business retail, restaurant, or sales-tax-driven environments.
• Strong accounting fundamentals: debits/credits, double-entry accounting.
• Experience owning general ledger and AP processes end-to-end.
• Excellent organizational skills with high-volume documentation and data entry.
• Self-motivated, solutions-oriented, dependable follow-through.
• Familiarity with sales tax and industry-specific reporting requirements.

Responsibilities

• Own the general ledger and ensure accurate, timely recording of transactions.
• Apply strong understanding of double-entry accounting (debits/credits).
• Maintain organized records and supporting documentation.
• Ensure accuracy and completion of AP: invoice entry, coding, and approvals.
• Fill In Invoice entry for any departments not completed.
• Process all payments.
• Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies.
• Maintain consistent, accurate data entry and documentation.
• Monitor bank activity and manage payment execution.
• Perform bank reconciliations and maintain cash visibility.
• Prepare and submit required filings, including sales tax and beverage tax.
• Interface with CPA firm to support federal and state filings.

This is a highly detail-oriented role responsible for maintaining the general ledger, running accounts payable, managing bank reconciliations, supporting tax reporting, and interfacing directly with the CPA firm for annual filings.

Salary + Additional Benefits:

• $95,000-$110,000

Responsibilities:

• Own the general ledger and ensure accurate, timely recording of transactions
• Apply strong understanding of double-entry accounting (debits/credits)
• Maintain organized records and supporting documentation
• Ensure accuracy and completion of AP: invoice entry, coding, and approvals
• Fill In Invoice entry for any departments not completed
• Process all payments
• Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies
• Maintain consistent, accurate data entry and documentation
• Monitor bank activity and manage payment execution

• Mixed beverage gross receipts and sales tax
• Maintain and update spreadsheets/workbooks used for tax calculations and reporting
• Manage administrative reporting and government compliance tasks tied to operating the business
• Interface directly with the CPA firm to support preparation of federal income tax returns and state filings
• Provide requested documentation and ensure timely responses and follow-through
