Encompass Community Supports is a Virginia state community services organization that provides comprehensive mental health, substance use, developmental disability, housing, children’s, and aging services in Culpeper, Fauquier, Madison, Orange, and Rappahannock Counties. The Accountant I – Payroll Operations prepares, processes, and maintains payroll and related records; analyzes financial data; work is performed under regular supervision.
Thorough knowledge of payroll methods, systems, processes and procedures, including state and federal laws and regulations; thorough knowledge of accounting terminology and methods; general knowledge of accounting theory and principles, and their application to accounting transactions; general knowledge of standard office procedures, practices and equipment; skill in the use of computer equipment; ability to follow detailed and written instructions; ability to maintain complex financial records and prepare reports; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public; basic knowledge of the Fair Labor Standards Act and the Family Medical Leave Act; knowledge of MS Office, including Word and Excel.
Must have an understanding of analysis and reasoning; ability to examine data and draw conclusions; must be detail oriented. Work should be accurate, complete, and deadlines met; must be honest, ethical and have integrity; must have fiscal accountability and follow fiscal guidelines, regulations, principles, and standards; must be discrete and able to keep information confidential; must be dependable.
Degree in Business, Accounting, or related field preferred, or equivalent work experience may be substituted. Certification as a Payroll Professional preferred.
This work requires little or no physical effort or exertion.
Attends training and maintains certifications as required by the Agency and regulatory guidelines.
