Job summary

The County of Galveston is seeking an Accountant to support responsible, transparent management of public resources through accurate accounting, grant management, and financial reporting. You will provide reliable information for decision-making and safeguard taxpayer funds.

Responsibilities include posting journal entries, maintaining grant budgets, submitting reports to grantors, aiding audits, and assisting in CAFR preparation.

  • Requires two years’ experience in government accounting, general finance operations or closely related experience.

  • Maintain grant budgets, including creation of budget reports for new grants, and financial tracking schedules to ensure expenditures align with funding requirements and approved allocations.
  • Prepare and submit financial reports, invoices, and reimbursement requests to granting agencies in compliance with grant terms and conditions.
  • Monitor grant expenditures and balances to ensure proper use of funds and compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Coordinate with the Grants Administration and various other County departments to ensure timely reporting and resolution of financial issues.
  • Assist with audits, monitoring visits, and financial reviews by providing supporting documentation and responding to inquiries.
  • Maintain accurate and organized records for all grant financial activities in accordance with county policies and grantor requirements.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of procedures to improve grant accounting processes and ensure compliance with accounting standards.
  • Participate in grant closeout activities, ensuring all financial obligations are met and reports submitted.
  • Assists in the preparation of the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.

Education

Bachelor's Degree

Duties and Responsibilities

Physical Demands/Work Environment
