Job summary

Harper College seeks a Grant Accountant to support fiscal administration and compliance for college grants. The incumbent will interpret guidelines, ensure expenditures align with budgets and regulations, and prepare journal entries and financial reports. The role requires strong GAAP knowledge and collaboration with grant administrators.

Hybrid work arrangement (3–2–5) is available. The position involves data extraction for accruals, grant set-up, and audit support across federal programs.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of three years of grant accounting experience required.
  • Education: B.A./B.S. in Accounting or five years of relevant experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as College liaison with internal departments and grantees for fiscal administration and compliance related to grants.
  • Interprets grant guidelines and ensures expenditures comply with state and federal regulations, grant agreements, and budgets as well as college policies.
  • Extracts and analyzes data needed for year-end accruals.
  • Researches, prepares and posts journal entries to transfer funds or make corrections as needed.
  • Uses generally accepted accounting principles to analyze, record and process accounting documents.
  • Responsible for grant set-up, recording entries, and monitoring grant revenues and expenditures.
  • Ensures a clean audit of grants and responds to auditor requests for information.
  • Prepares annual audit and budget documents related to grants and federal programs; provides support for other audit segments.
  • Creates grant financial reports and reimbursement requests; monitors receipt of funds.
  • Provides guidance on allowable costs and compliant purchasing procedures to grant administrators and project directors.
  • Provides technical and accounting assistance to grant program managers regarding financial development and management of grant budgets.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

  • Interprets grant guidelines and ensure expenditures comply withstate and federal regulations, grant agreements, and grant budgetsas well as college policies and procedures.
  • Extracts and analyzes data needed for year-end accruals.
  • Researches, prepares and posts journal entries to transfer funds ormake corrections as needed.
  • Using generally accepted accounting principles, analyzes, recordsand processes a variety of accounting documents.
  • Responsible for grant set-up, recording entries, and monitoringgrant revenues and expenditures.
  • Ensures a clean audit of grants, both periodic and close-out, andresponds to all auditor requests for information.
  • Prepares all annual audit and budget documents related to grants,federal programs, and ICCB grant financial statements. Providessupport for the preparation of other audit segments.
  • Creates grant financial reports and requests for reimbursement andmonitors receipt of funds.
  • Provides guidance on allowable costs and compliant purchasingprocedures to grant administrators and project directors to ensurecompliance with grant agreements and budgets and timely expendingof funds, meeting all financial reporting deadlines.
  • Provides technical and accounting assistance to the grant programmanagers with regard to the financial development and management ofgrant budgets.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

Work is primarily indoors, and sedentary in nature. This positionis eligible for the eligible for the 3-2-5 hybrid workschedule.

Equipment/Tools Used:

Utilizes standard office equipment, including computers, in orderto perform the duties required for this position.

Supervision:

Under the general supervision of the Grant Accounting Manager.Receives oral and written instruction as needed
