Job summary

Northmarq, a leading capital markets resource for commercial real estate, seeks an experienced Accountant for its Bloomington, MN headquarters. The role supports accurate cash activity accounting, journal entries, bank reconciliations, and intercompany processes, leveraging U.S. GAAP and ERP systems.

The ideal candidate combines strong Excel and systems skills with initiative, attention to detail, and a drive to improve processes while supporting the broader accounting team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field; relevant work experience may count
• 3+ years of relevant accounting experience
• Experience with journal entries, reconciliations, or cash activity
• ERP experience (Netsuite or Microsoft Dynamics GP preferred)
• Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP
• Understanding of commercial real estate and mortgage banking preferred
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office
• Experience in a multi-entity environment with intercompany accounting and consolidations

Responsibilities

• Maintain understanding of automated processes, data sources, and journal entry production.
• Prepare and record accurate journal entries in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
• Understand ERP processes for recording cash and deal-related activity, incl. macros and ODBC connections.
• Understand transaction types and typical accounting entries.
• Review Salesforce-to-ERP reconciliations and investigate exceptions.
• Reconcile bank accounts regularly and meet month-end close deadlines.
• Research variances and coordinate resolution with partners.
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and processes.
• Understand upstream/downstream impacts of transactions and entries.
• Willingness to use evolving technology to support accounting processes.
• Communicate clearly regarding activity, exceptions, and follow-up.
• Perform additional related duties and back-ups as assigned.
