Job summary

Southland Industries is seeking an Accountant in San Diego to manage core financial recordkeeping, transactions, and reconciliations in line with GAAP and state/federal regulations. The role supports accounts payable, receivable, and payroll processing, along with cross-training across accounting functions.

The position emphasizes accuracy, confidentiality, and timely response to inquiries, with opportunities for professional growth in a large national MEP contractor environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent experience preferred
• 3-5 years of accounting experience preferred
• Basic accounting knowledge
• Strong organization skills with high level of attention to detail
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Proven ability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure
• Able to analyze and resolve basic issues
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion
• Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. required
• Able to remain flexible in a rapidly changing environment

Responsibilities

• Ensure accurate and timely processing of assigned financial transactions including accounts payable, accounts receivable or payroll
• Conduct regular account reconciliation for assigned area to assure accuracy of records
• Research and resolve straightforward accounting discrepancies and irregularities, elevating more complex issues as needed
• Follow policies and procedures to ensure compliance with state/federal laws and GAAP
• Respond to inquiries from internal and external customers; provide instruction on processes
• Cross-train in other areas to broaden knowledge of accounting processes and systems
