Job summary

Progressive Staffing LLC is seeking an Accountant for a local family-owned construction company in Western New York. The role reports to the Assistant Controller and Corporate Controller and covers day-to-day accounting tasks, project cost tracking, and timely close processes.

The position is full-time, in-office in Buffalo, with a salary range of $65,000–$95,000 plus a performance-based bonus. AIA billing experience and 3+ years in construction accounting are preferred.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of accounting experience in a construction setting.
• AIA billing experience preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Proficiency with Excel and ERP software.

Responsibilities

• Handle day-to-day accounting activities including AP/AR and project billings.
• Participate in monthly close, reconciliations, and reporting.
• Process monthly journal entries: accruals, depreciation, prepaid expenses.
• Maintain project accounting records: contract status, job costs, billings.
• Support annual budget prep, forecasts, variance analyses.
• Assist with external audits by coordinating documentation.

Job description

Our client, a local, family-owned construction company in WNY, is looking to hire an Accountant to join their team. This person will work closely with the Assistant Controller and Corporate Controller to perform day-to-day accounting functions.

Responsibilities:

• Actively participate in day-to-day accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, project billings, cash applications, and other transactional processes
• Participate in monthly close processes, ensuring all deadlines, account reconciliations, supporting schedules, and reporting deliverables are completed accurately and on schedule
• Process monthly journal entries, including accruals, intercompany transactions, depreciation, amortization, prepaid expenses, and other recurring accounting activities
• Maintain accurate project accounting records, including contract status, job costs, billings, and project-related financial data
• Understand job performance and costs to ensure proper revenue and expense recognition
• Prepare monthly customer billings, including AIA billing packages, lien waivers, and supporting contract documentation
• Build a comprehensive understanding of project financial performance, including cost-to-complete estimates, labor productivity, equipment utilization, contract compliance, and profitability metrics
• Participate in the preparation of annual budgets, financial forecasts, variance analyses, and management reporting packages
• Assist with monthly financial statements, cash reporting, and forecasting
• Support external audit engagements by coordinating requested documentation, and ensuring timely responses to auditor inquiries
• Support the ongoing evolution of accounting processes, reporting capabilities, and system enhancements as the organization continues to grow
• Work well both independently and in a team environment
• Other duties as assigned/as necessary

Details:

• Position is full-time, direct hire
• 100% in-office
• $65,000 - $95,000 annually depending on experience plus bonus (based on company’s performance)
• 3+ years’ Accounting experience in a construction setting preferred; someone with less experience who is driven to learn and grow may be taken in to consideration
• AIA experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related
• Experience with ComputerEase, Textura, ERP systems, and construction accounting software preferred
• Proficient in Excel
• Strong organization skills and time management skills
• Strong attention to detail & accuracy
• Self-motivated, but collaborative and team oriented
• Relocation not available
