Job summary

GOV-Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority in Baton Rouge, LA seeks an Accountant 1-4 to support the Deepwater Horizon Project accounting functions. Qualifications

  • Three years of accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking experience; OR six years of full-time experience in any field plus twenty-four semester hours in accounting; OR a bachelor’s degree with twenty-four semester hours in accounting; OR a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, or statistics; OR an advanced degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, quantitative methods, or statistics; OR CPA license.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor, research, and reconcile project budgets and expenditures.
  • Review invoices, process budget documents, and prepare journal vouchers for assigned projects.
  • Prepare expenditure reports to ensure compliance with budgetary guidelines and program regulations.
  • Maintain grant billing records for DWH projects in LaGov, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and timeliness of funds receipt and classification.
  • Collaborate with project managers on cost status and advise on allowable charges.
  • Prepare data for financial reporting using LaGov and Excel, including NRDA cost reporting through the NOAA DIVER portal and updates to sponsors and project staff.
  • Assist in internal and external audits by gathering supporting documentation.
  • Participate in meetings and trainings to maintain current knowledge of federal guidelines, state regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned.

Job description

The Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Accountant 1-4 to join the Deepwater Horizon Project (DWH) Accounting section of CPRA’s Financial Services Division. The incumbent is responsible for performing a variety of professional accounting duties, including financial reporting, project and grant reconciliations, budget and expenditure tracking, ensuring compliance with accounting policies and regulations, and other fiscal operations that support the agency’s daily business functions.

  • Three years of experience in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking; OR
  • Six years of full-time experience in any field plus twenty-four semester hours in accounting; OR
  • A bachelor’s degree with twenty-four semester hours in accounting; OR
  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, or statistics; OR
  • An advanced degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, quantitative methods, or statistics; OR
  • Possession of a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION: Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

  • Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
  • Experience with LaGov ERP (Finance modules).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize workload while collaborating with a team.
  • Acute attention to detail, accuracy, and precision.

Appointment Type: Probational, Promotional, or Job Appointment*

Career Progression: This position may be filled as an Accountant 1, Accountant 2, Accountant 3, or Accountant 4 depending on level of experience.

Compensation: The maximum salary for the Accountant 4 is $110,531 annually.

Accountant 1 $1,730.40

Accountant 2 $1,851.20

Accountant 3 $2,120.00

Accountant 4 $2,428.00

*If filled as a Job Appointment, there is a possibility that this position may later be converted to a Probational Appointment should funding become available.
