Job summary

The LSU AgCenter is seeking an Accountant 1 to compile, analyze and report on the financial performance of the School of Renewable Natural Resources. The role focuses on reviewing financial statements, budgeting and forecast activities to support university operations in Louisiana.

You will work within the School of Renewable Natural Resources on campus in Baton Rouge, contributing to internal controls and monthly closes while ensuring compliance with state reporting requirements.

Qualifications

  • Three years of experience in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking.
  • Six years of full-time experience in any field plus twenty-four semester hours in accounting.
  • An advanced degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, quantitative methods, or statistics.
  • Possession of a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.

Responsibilities

  • Review monthly financial statements to determine proper charging of operating revenues and expenditures; prepare income statements by consolidating accounting data and interpret results; assist in preparing annual budgets and forecasts, manage year-end and account-end closing activities; Monitor individual faculty accounts and recommend corrective action if needed; perform in-house audits; report non-compliance or account changes to management; etc. (50%)
  • Responsible for the production of complex accounting reports, manage budget projections for many accounts, and monitor and forecast expenditures for state funds and grant funds. (50%)

Education

Bachelor’s degree with twenty-four semester hours in accounting
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, or statistics
Advanced degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, quantitative methods, or statistics
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license

The School of Renewable Natural Resources is hiring an Accountant 1 with a passion for compiling, analyzing and reporting on the financial performance of the school.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Three years of experience in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking; OR
  • Six years of full-time experience in any field plus twenty-four semester hours in accounting; OR
  • A bachelor’s degree with twenty-four semester hours in accounting; OR
  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, or statistics; OR
  • An advanced degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, quantitative methods, or statistics; OR
  • Possession of a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.
Experience Substitution

Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Job Duties

As An Accountant 1, You'll Help Create a Positive First Impression For Every Person Who Walks Through Our Doors. In This Role, You Will:

Position-Specific Details
  • Appointment Type: This position does not participate in a Career Progression Group.
  • Work Schedule: Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday.
  • Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
  • Location: 227 Renewable Natural Resources Building, LSU-BR campus
  • This position is not eligible for remote employment.
