Responsibilities

  • Performs general cost accounting and other related duties in the accounting department.
  • Prepares periodic (monthly) balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements.
  • Maintains the general ledger.
  • Codes invoices, sets up new accounts, reconciles accounts, and closes the monthly books.
  • Reconciles bank accounts and verifies deposits; addresses bank inquiries.
  • Reconciles customer accounts and manages accounts receivable collections.
  • Verifies payment of invoices and ensures payments are charged to appropriate accounts.
  • Assists outside auditors; gathers information for annual audit.
  • Files required tax forms with federal, state, and local agencies.
  • Coordinates with software vendor to maintain accounting software; recommends updates.
  • Monitors compliance with policies related to grant funds.
  • Other duties as assigned by the CFO.

Accountant

Full Time Management Tiffin, OH, US

The Business Office Accountant will provide direct support to the Vice President for Finance & Administration (CFO), preparing financial reports to track the institution’s assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities.

Supervision Received:

Reports directly to the CFO.

  • Performs general cost accounting and other related duties in the accounting department.
  • Prepares periodic (monthly) balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements.
  • Maintains the general ledger.
  • Codes invoices, sets up new accounts, reconciles accounts, and closes the monthly books.
  • Reconciles bank accounts at least monthly, verifies deposits, and addresses inquiries from banks.
  • Reconciles customer accounts and manages accounts receivable collections.
  • Verifies payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensures payments are charged to the appropriate accounts.
  • Provides outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit.
  • Files required tax forms with federal, state, and local government agencies.
  • As appropriate, coordinates with software vendor to maintain accounting software system; recommends updates to enhance the accounting software.
  • Monitor compliance with internal policies related to grant funds

Desired Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Management, Finance, or related field
  • 2-3 years of relevant accounting experience

  • 5 years of relevant accounting experience
  • Prior experience in higher education
  • Professional Accounting and/or Finance certification

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of computers and electronic data processing, including spreadsheets and word processing; Skill in operation of office equipment.
  • Ability to gather, analyze and interpret data.
  • Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain level of confidentiality with regards to sensitive data and records.
  • Ability to create and maintain working relationships with other faculty, staff and students.
  • Ability to exercise sound independent judgment when answering questions and direct to appropriate supervisor if necessary.
  • Ability to understand and follow through with multi-directional tasks
  • Must possess a high level of accuracy and be detail oriented.

  • Ability to learn new software and technologies quickly.
Tools & Equipment Used: Knowledge of operation and use of various office equipment including, but not limited to: personal computer, including spreadsheet and word processing software, adding machine, fax machine, copier, telephone, scanner, and printers.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use arms, hands and fingers to operate and manipulate equipment generally found in an office setting. The employee may be frequently required to walk, sit, stand, talk, and hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to ten (10) pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than twenty-five (25) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Mental demands include occasional varied degrees of occasional stress while performing job duties.
