Job summary

SUMMARYShineforth Child & Family Services is seeking an Accountant to join our mission-focused Finance Team in Richmond, VA. The Accountant provides direct support to the Vice President of Finance, receives general supervision, and performs essential accounting functions including cash management, accounts receivable, fixed asset accounting, monthly journal entries, audit assistance and other special projects as assigned.Shineforth Child & Family Services supports children, teens, and families who are navigating complex challenges related to emotional, behavioral, and / or mental wellness and trauma. We are a statewide nonprofit with 350 employees who serve families from eight locations across the commonwealth. Our suite of nearly 20 programs, services, and partnerships includes foster care and adoption, specialized K-12 education at two locations (Edinburg and Richmond), a residential program for youth, outpatient therapy, and several community-based services. Our mission is to be the unwavering champion that every child deserves.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES· Perform cash management functions - record all cash transactions timely and accurately, prepare daily cash position summary - other as assigned.· Prepare monthly balance sheet account reconciliations as assigned.· Prepare monthly general ledger journal entries as assigned.· Prepare and review foster parent payroll monthly.· Responsible for monthly Development department reporting and other project ID reporting as assigned.· Fixed asset management - monthly CIP review and reconciliation - monthly depreciation journal entry- monthly fixed asset balance sheet reconciliations.· Prepare year-end audit schedules as assigned.· Blackbaud accounts receivable management and collections.· Prepare timely payments to grant partners as grant receivables are paid.· Prepare and distribute I099's annually.· Submit and process escheated checks on an annual basis.· Provide general accounting assistance as needed and participate in special projects.· Maintain current knowledge of financial software and accounting procedures.· Engage in quality improvement practices, develop efficiencies in areas of job responsibilities and participate on other agency teams as assigned.· Cultivate and maintain strong collaborative and working relationships with program management, program staff, and funders.· Assist with accounts payable functions.· Complete other duties as assigned.COMPUTER SKILLSEffectively use a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, and data collection. Must be proficient in MS word, Excel, Power Point, Microsoft outlook and use of the Internet to produce reports and analyze data. Multiple mandatory trainings are required dependent on position and program. Refer to Shineforth Learning Institute plan for additional information.PHYSICAL DEMANDSSitting for extended periods of time daily; standing and walking short distances. Minimal twisting, bending, stooping, and lifting up to 20 pounds in the performance of assigned duties. Normal manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination required. Repeated hand-wrist movement required. Corrected vision to normal range; normal hearing and talking is required for verbal communications. Ability to use a variety of office equipment and technologies as required for the position. Driving short and long distances is infrequent, overnight occasionally.
