Job summary

Shineforth’s Child & Family Healing Center in Richmond, VA seeks a Staff Development Trainer to design, coordinate, and deliver comprehensive training for CFHC staff and Shineforth employees. You’ll lead new hire and ongoing training, ensure compliance, and partner with leaders to close learning gaps while fostering a culture of safety and excellence.

The role emphasizes trauma-informed care, documentation standards, and performance coaching, with a compensation of $50,000–$60,000 and benefits

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, mental health and human services fields and two years related experience.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and deliver new hire training and ongoing training programs for Direct Care Staff, Treatment Specialists, Supervisors, and Managers.
  • Conduct certification and recertification courses in CPR, First Aid, and other required safety training.
  • Facilitate Therapeutic Options (Ther Ops) training, including crisis prevention, de-escalation techniques, and post-incident procedures.
  • Provide training on effective supervision, staff coaching, performance expectations, and leadership development.
  • Deliver instruction on documentation standards, including progress notes, incident reports, and regulatory compliance.
  • Train employees in behavior management, trauma-informed care, and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Assess learning needs and develop materials, presentations, manuals, and activities.
  • Evaluate understanding via assessments and competency evaluations, with coaching as needed.
  • Maintain training records and ensure compliance with licensing and accreditation.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and update training content accordingly.
  • Identify performance gaps with leadership and recommend training solutions.
  • Observe field performance and provide coaching or retraining as necessary.
  • Support onboarding by ensuring required training is completed on time.

This role ensures employees are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and competencies needed to provide high-quality, person-centered care while maintaining compliance with organizational policies, regulatory requirements, and best practices. The Trainer facilitates new hire training and ongoing professional development, evaluates training effectiveness, and collaborates with leadership to identify learning needs. This position promotes a culture of continuous learning, safety, professionalism, and excellence in service delivery to support positive outcomes for individuals served.# ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES* Coordinate and deliver new hire training and ongoing training programs for Direct Care Staff, Treatment Specialists, Supervisors, and Managers.* Conduct certification and recertification courses in CPR, First Aid, and other required safety training in accordance with applicable regulations and organizational standards.* Facilitate Therapeutic Options (Ther Ops) training, including crisis prevention, de-escalation techniques, safe intervention strategies, and post-incident procedures.* Provide training on effective supervision practices, including staff coaching, performance expectations, conflict resolution, and leadership development.* Deliver instruction on documentation standards, including progress notes, incident reports, treatment documentation, electronic health records, and regulatory compliance requirements.* Train employees in behavior management principles, positive behavior support strategies, trauma-informed care, person-centered practices, appropriate intervention techniques, and Collaborative Problem-Solving model.* Assess employee learning needs and develop training materials, presentations, manuals, and competency-based learning activities to support professional development.* Evaluate participant understanding through written assessments, skills demonstrations, and competency evaluations, providing additional coaching as needed.* Maintain accurate training records, certifications, attendance logs, and competency documentation to ensure compliance with licensing, accreditation, and organizational requirements.* Monitor changes in state and federal regulations, best practices, and agency policies to ensure training content remains current and compliant.* Collaborate with leadership to identify performance gaps and recommend training solutions that improve employee knowledge, quality of care, and service outcomes.* Observe staff performance in the field, provide constructive feedback, and recommend individualized coaching or retraining when necessary.* Support new employees onboarding by ensuring required training is completed within designated timeframes.* Participate in quality improvement initiatives, audits, and compliance reviews related to employee training and competency.* Serve as a resource to supervisors and managers regarding training requirements, regulatory standards, and workforce development.* Perform other duties as assigned to support organizational training, employee development, and quality service delivery.## **EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE**Bachelor’s degree in education, mental health and human services fields and two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.**Compensation & Benefits****$50,000-60,000**Shineforth has been an unwavering champion for children, teens, and families for more than 125 years.
