Job description

We are seeking an experienced Accountant to support financial reporting, reconciliation, audit preparation, and fiscal management related to CMDP funding. This position analyzes financial information and prepares financial statements, schedules, reports, and supporting documentation in accordance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and applicable governmental accounting standards, including Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) requirements.

The Accountant is responsible for preparing CMDP audited financial statements and supplementary schedules submitted to the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS). The position also performs quarterly revenue and expenditure reconciliations, month‑end general ledger closing activities, financial analysis, KPI reporting, and dashboard development.

This role works closely with Agency management and external organizations, including AHCCCS, the Office of the Auditor General, and the ADOA General Accounting Office, providing accurate and timely financial information and analysis.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare CMDP audited financial statements and various supplementary schedules for submission to AHCCCS.
• Prepare account analysis schedules, variance explanations, footnotes, and supporting documentation.
• Analyze revenue, expenses, balance sheet accounts, and income statement activity; identify trends and explain variances.
• Assist management with annual financial statement audits and respond to audit requests.
• Conduct quarterly revenue and expenditure reconciliations and prepare required reports for AHCCCS.
• Retrieve and analyze financial information using automated accounting systems, data downloads, and AFIS reports.
• Identify, research, and resolve financial discrepancies prior to fiscal year‑end.
• Perform general ledger closing activities and prepare financial reports during month‑end close.
• Analyze accounting records for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable accounting and reporting standards.
• Maintain and update accounting procedures and compile monthly financial reports and audit support documentation.
• Develop and maintain KPI metrics, financial dashboards, charts, and management reports.
• Collect, analyze, summarize, and present financial data, findings, trends, and recommendations to management and other stakeholders.
• Evaluate operational and accounting needs and recommend solutions to financial and business-related issues.
• Advise management regarding resource utilization, financial trends, and assumptions supporting budget forecasts.
• Organize and maintain electronic financial files and records.
