Oklahoma Indian Legal Services
Oklahoma Indian Legal Services (OILS) is looking for an accounting professional who wants to bring their skills to support an organization that provides free legal help to low-income Native residents of Oklahoma.We use legal support to change the lives of people in need every year, who are members of tribes located across our state.
The accountant is responsible for all financial matters for the organization, and reports to and works closely with the Executive Director to manage an annual non-profit budget of approximately $2M. The accountant must be able to adapt to a continually evolving environment and thrive in an autonomous and deadline-oriented workplace.
Compensation:
Salary range is commensurate on experience with benefits including health insurance (with dental and vision benefits), sick leave and vacation.
Responsibilities:
Finance
Responsible for cash flow planning and projection, working with the Executive Director to ensure availability of funds as needed.
Responsible for all OILS finances, including payroll, accounts payable, general ledger, cash management, and reporting.
Responsible for financing strategies and activities.
Planning and Policy
Develop and monitor organizational and specific project budgets.
Develop short-term and long-term financial plans and projections.
Remain up to date on nonprofit accounting best practices, and state and federal law regarding nonprofit operations, and funder requirements relating to financial management and cost accounting.
Accounting and Administration
Properly maintain all non-profit accounting systems and functions, including a compliant fund accounting system.
Monitor, maintain and improve internal controls and financial procedures to ensure a high level of security and compliance.
Provide timely, accurate, and useful financial and management reporting for management, funders and the OILS Board of Directors.
With the Executive Director, prepare an annual budget for Board approval, and prepare updates as needed.
Prepare and provide monthly and annual financial statements.
Maintain and/or supervise client trust accounts; prepare quarterly reconciliation of client trust fund to general ledger.
Coordinate and support the audit process with external auditors; ensure proper filing of tax returns.
Ensure legal and regulatory compliance regarding all financial functions.
Qualifications
The accountant will be a seasoned and mature professional with preferably 5 years of broad finance experience, including experience with audit, gathering and evaluating financial information and making actionable recommendations to senior leadership. The accountant will ideally have experience with fund accounting, budgeting, control, and reporting for a complex nonprofit with multiple funding sources including government (federal and state) grants and contracts.
