Job description

Exciting Accountant contract opportunity with our insurance client in Oakland, CA.

Contract Duration: 6 months through the end of the year.

Primarily working from home with a few meetings a quarter in the Oakland, CA offices.

Required Skills & Experience

• Experience with applications such as Oracle Cloud (Fusion) General Accounting module, Business Objects, Salesforce.
• Knowledgeable with group profit and loss accounting concepts and healthcare insurance (e.g., premiums, claims, etc.).
• Form 5500 preparation and knowledge.
• Intermediate to Advanced Excel skills.

2+ years of experience with a Bachelor's degree.

Additional Experience

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent required.

• Solid working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
• Strong organizational, time management, and multi-tasking abilities.

What You Will Be Doing

Daily Responsibilities

• Performing mid-level to complex accounting functions in compliance with GAAP and statutory requirements.
• Participating in monthly close activities and preparing internal and external reports.
• Preparing and posting moderately complex journal entries.
• Generating internal financial performance reports and narratives, creating ad hoc reports, and validating data output.
• Performing account reconciliations and analyzing variances, including key drivers and trends.
• Processing and reporting transactions in accordance with GAAP and regulatory requirements.
• Participating in month-end and year-end close processes.
• Participating in special projects within the division and cross-functional teams.
• Identifying opportunities for process improvement and proposing recommendations.
• Researching problems and proposing solutions proactively.
• Assisting with internal and external audit requirements.
• Performing other duties as requested or assigned.
• Generating Form 5500s.
