Job summary

Advocates in Framingham, MA is seeking an Accountant to support the monthly close and deliver timely, accurate reconciliations. A Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required, with 1–2 years of experience in general ledger close, preferably in nonprofit settings.

You will prepare bank reconciliations, record HUD tenant rent assistance payments, help with year-end audit schedules, maintain balance sheets and journal entries, and contribute to process improvements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field.
  • 1–2 years of full general ledger monthly closing experience.
  • Experience in nonprofit, human services and/or health care environments preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare bank reconciliations for assigned cash accounts on a monthly basis prior to issuing the financial statements.
  • Record Tenant Rent Assistance payments in accounting software for HUD entities.
  • Prepare year end audit schedules.
  • Update and maintain assigned balance sheet, allocations, general ledger journal entries, amortization schedules, recurring expenses and prepaid schedules.
  • Assist in timely, accurate and high quality monthly close.
  • Recommend procedural improvements to processes and resolve issues.
  • Attend and actively participate in supervision and staff meetings.

Salary: $60,000-$65,000

Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:30am-5pm

The Accountant is responsible for assisting in the monthly close process and providing timely and accurate reconciliations.

  • Proficiency in accounting software applications (experience with Business Central a plus).
  • Ability to communicate articulately and knowledgeably with all levels of internal staff.
  • Must be well organized, willing to learn and take initiative.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • High energy level, superior interpersonal skills and ability to function in a team atmosphere.
