Job Summary
The Entry-Level Staff Accountant supports the daily accounting operations of the community bank by assisting with general ledger activities, account reconciliations, and financial reporting. This position is ideal for a recent graduate or early-career professional looking to build a strong foundation in banking and financial services accounting.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with daily and monthly general ledger postings and journal entries
- Perform routine account and bank reconciliations under supervision
- Help maintain accurate records for deposits, loans, and interest income
- Assist in preparing monthly financial statements and internal reports
- Support regulatory and compliance reporting requirements
- Help gather documentation for internal and external audits
- Monitor accounts for discrepancies and assist in resolving variances
- Maintain organized accounting records and supporting documentation
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes
- Learn and follow GAAP, bank policies, and internal control procedures
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or in progress)
- Internship or part-time accounting experience preferred but not required
- Interest in banking or financial services strongly preferred
Skills & Qualifications
- Basic understanding of accounting principles
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Willingness to learn banking regulations and accounting practices
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and basic accounting software
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- High level of integrity and confidentiality
Preferred Qualifications
- Coursework in financial accounting or auditing
- Familiarity with general ledger systems
- CPA-track or interest in professional development
