Employer Description

The Laborers’ and Retirement Board Employees’ Annuity and Benefit Fund of Chicago (the “LABF” or “Fund”) was established in 1935 for the purpose of providing retirement and disability benefits to employees of the City of Chicago or the Board of Education in a “labor service” classification, and their beneficiaries. Employees of three City of Chicago pension funds also participate in the LABF. The LABF is governed pursuant to Articles 1 and 11 of the Illinois Pension Code, 40 ILCS 5/1-101, et seq., and is administered by an eight-member Board of Trustees (the “Board”). Currently, the Fund employs 21 full-time staff, has 2,600 active members, and 3,500 members or survivors receiving benefits, and $1.3 billion in investment assets. Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Lead Accountant and Comptroller, the Accountant will perform entry-level professional accounting duties and related duties as required.

  • Code, record and update journal entries (e.g. expenditures, account transfers, etc.).
  • Audit financial documents to ensure entries are accurate and appropriately allocated to accounts.
  • Reconciliation of bank accounts.
  • Verify and record receipts.
  • Verify and record invoices in accounting system.
  • Assist with payroll functions.
  • Assist with special projects as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Education: Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting (minimum GPA of 3.2/4.0)
