SUMMARY

The AR Accountant primarily works directly with the Senior AR Accountant and is responsible for the maintenance of all aspects of HK’s tenant related ledgers and account receivables, including, timeliness and accuracy of data entry, account reconciliation and assisting administration with financial reports. The AR Accountant is responsible in assisting with the process of billing and applying payments from HKs tenants, analyzing journal entries, supporting documentation and affected accounts and work with property accountants to ensure validity. Incumbent has overall responsibility of ensuring the accuracy of all accounting entered into the accounting system, including ensuring accurate and timely monthly close, billings, collections and cash applications. All while maintaining an environment with strong internal controls.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Maintains and reconciles accounts receivable accounts, including:
    • reviewing account balances for accuracy;
    • monthly bank statements to checkbooks and GL;
    • preparing and posting monthly AR charge backs, pre-paid expenses, and tenant associated fees;
    • preparing and posting journal entries to correct balances;
    • p repare and post month-end close and accounting transactions in a timely and accurate manner
  • Reconcile bank statements and GL accounts involved with tenant related ledgers.
  • Assists Controller with general ledger monthly and yearly closes, including preparation of the required reconciliations and workpapers for the annual audit.
  • Assists Controller with cash flow and cash requirement assessments.
  • Reviews personnel action forms for budget availability and coding prior to hire and/or posting.
  • Reviews and posts uploads from subsidiary ledgers to the general ledger.
  • Assist Housing Kitsap staff in understanding their financial reports.
  • Reviews and prepares entries for property monthly activity (from property manager).
  • Interact with internal and external auditors to ensure financial statements are presented accurately and filed on time.
  • Keep abreast of regulatory requirements and best practices in accounting.
  • Assists other Accounting and Finance staff when needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Accounting or Finance, or related field preferred; or equivalent combination of education training and experience.
  • 2+ years’ experience of General Ledger and Journal Entries experience
  • Must have intermediate-advanced level Excel skills
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to resolve complex problems with multiple variables
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail showing the ability to meet deadlines
  • Proven track record of maintaining strong internal controls and reliable and efficient processes
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Solid GAAP and financial reporting technical skills
Special Qualifications
  • Ability to pass criminal background check.
  • Previous Housing Authority experience a plus.

Starting Pay Range from $53,622 to $57,594 a year
