Job summary

A leading company in food safety solutions is looking for a Sales Representative to manage corporate relationships and increase market share in agriculture. The ideal candidate will promote Neogen’s products while being based in Eastern Ohio, Pennsylvania, or New York to maximize territory access. Manage the corporate relationship with distribution partners assigned to the position and increase market share at the field level through daily interactions at every level of the sales cycle. Promote the use of and sell Neogen’s products to the distribution channel, including two-step distributors, catalogs, mass retailers, and dealers. The ideal candidate will maintain primary residence in Eastern Ohio, Pennsylvania, or New York to have the best access to key drivers of the territory. The territory includes Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia, Delaware, Connecticut, Maryland, New Jersey, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Maine.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Call on customers and prospects in the field and by telephone, fax, and email, informing them of new and existing products/services, and explaining their characteristics and benefits.
  • Promote and sell all products and services offered by the company.
  • Communicate with the existing customer base regularly to monitor satisfaction, resolve problems, and assess the competitive position.
  • Develop formal sales plans and strategies to penetrate new markets and increase market share and profitability of the territory. Provide written updates monthly.
  • Meet or exceed a set number of sales calls and in-person customer visits per month, with activity documented in CRM.
  • Quote prices and persuade prospects and customers to purchase.
  • Collaborate with the sales team to develop marketing ideas.
  • Meet or exceed budgeted sales revenues.
  • Secure, record, and coordinate orders and delivery dates.
  • Support the sales efforts of other team members.
  • Represent the company at industry trade shows and meetings to promote products, increase market and competitive knowledge, and identify new product opportunities.
  • Document customer questions, answers, and product requests.
  • Conduct market analysis and research as needed.
  • Read industry publications to stay informed and share relevant articles with the organization.
  • Participate in the annual budgeting process and analyze expenditures to ensure budget compliance.
  • Assist in resolving customer billing or collection issues.
  • Operate office equipment such as computers, fax machines, copiers, and calculators.
  • Record sales activities, customer data, and reactions in CRM software.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university; one or two years of professional sales experience in agriculture or a related industry.
