Job summary

United Mechanical in San Jose, CA, is seeking an Account Manager to be the primary point of contact for new prospects and existing accounts, ensuring customer satisfaction, contract profitability, and growth within the company’s strategic plans. The AM will focus on selling and managing service agreements, quoted repairs, and assisting in larger replacement projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (mechanical, industrial, etc.) or related field experience.
  • 5-7 years of experience in the building trades industry (mechanical, plumbing, etc.).
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, plumbing, ductwork, piping, refrigeration, and energy efficiency solutions.
  • Digitally savvy with PC applications and learning custom software quickly.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook), Bluebeam, and Smartsheet as needed for estimating, proposal writing, WIP management, CRM, and duties.

Responsibilities

  • Develop new client relationships and pursue business opportunities within assigned regions.
  • Qualify potential bid opportunities.
  • Analyze scope, schedule, and resources for sales opportunities to ensure alignment with company capabilities.
  • Participate in job walks, building surveys, and client/site visits.
  • Coordinate with Sales, Operations and Field to manage vendors, contracts, and work orders through the account life cycle.
  • Prepare detailed estimates and proposals outlining labor, materials, and overhead.
  • Generate leads for larger retrofit or modernization projects.
  • Drive performance towards maintenance agreements and small project sales goals.
  • Maintain accurate records in the CRM system.

Overview

The Account Manager (AM) acts as the primary point of contact for the Company within new prospects and existing accounts. The AM is responsible to ensure overall customer satisfaction, retention rates, quality of services delivered, contract profitability, and continued business growth within the Company’s strategic plans. The AM will be focused on selling and managing a mixture of service agreements, quoted repairs, and assist in facilitating larger replacement and/or improvement projects.

Responsibilities
  • Develop new client relationships and pursue business opportunities within the vertical markets and geographic regions, as directed by Sales Management. Follow up with any potential leads provided by construction team as directed by Sales Management.
  • Proactively qualify potential bid opportunities.
  • Analyze the scope, complexity, schedule, and general resource requirements of potential
  • sales opportunities to ensure alignment with the company capabilities and business plans.
  • Regularly participates in job walks, building surveys, and client and/or job site visits with both new and existing customers.
  • Communicate with customers, addressing concerns and service inquiries.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Operations, and Field in managing vendors, managing contracts, and overseeing the general prosecution of work orders and service agreements through the life cycle of the account. This includes new customer profiling and setup, coordinating billing production, and driving timely invoice collection efforts.
  • Coordinate with labor force leadership to ensure seamless execution.
  • Actively manage repairs and maintenance agreements to deliver on schedule and within budget.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in the company CRM system, tracking all account activity.
  • Supervise and mentor sales support personnel, when applicable to ensure effective support and team development.
  • Obtain and evaluate multiple vendor quotes for equipment, materials, and subcontractor services to ensure cost-effective solutions.
  • Process product/equipment submittals when required for customer records/approvals.
  • Prepare comprehensive, detailed estimates and proposals that outline labor, materials, and overhead costs, a clear scope of work, ensuring alignment with company pricing strategies and industry standards while mitigating risk. Compile kickoff meeting documentation and attend meeting.
  • Generate leads for larger retrofit or modernization projects, working in conjunction with Sales Management and Project Managers.
  • Drive performance towards PMA (Planned Maintenance Agreement), quoted repairs, and small project sales goals.
  • Participate in contract and work-in-progress (WIP) review meetings. Participate in active WIP management.
  • Assemble and submit project closeout documentation when required.
  • Represents the Company at designated industry and social events.
  • Stay current on industry trends, new technologies, code changes, and best practices to improve service operations.
  • Regularly attend trade-specific training.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering (mechanical, industrial, etc.), Construction Management, or related field experience.
  • 5-7 years of experience in the building trades industry (mechanical, plumbing, etc.).
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, plumbing, ductwork, piping, refrigeration, and energy efficiency solutions.
  • Digitally savvy, including excellent PC application skills and the ability to quickly learn numerous custom software applications.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook), Bluebeam, and Smartsheet as needed for estimating, proposal writing, WIP management, CRM, and general job duties.
