Job summary

Howard University is seeking an Accommodations & Testing Coordinator to manage the Testing Center operations, serving as the primary contact for students requesting accommodations and ensuring compliance with disability laws.

The role collaborates with faculty and staff, coordinates services, develops policies, and maintains testing infrastructure while upholding integrity, privacy, and accessibility standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate specialization and 1-3 years of professional experience in higher education preferred.
  • Master’s degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct intake interviews to determine students receiving services from the disability support unit.
  • Review and evaluate documentation to determine eligibility for services.
  • Coordinate scribe and interpreter services if needed.
  • Ensure the university’s compliance with testing standards set by Middle States, FERPA, ADA guidelines, NCTA standards, and Howard University policies and procedures.
  • Develop, evaluate, and revise policies for the testing center including scheduling, student identification, proctoring, video surveillance, academic integrity, and related policies.
  • Collaborate with faculty to develop policies and procedures regarding academic integrity in the testing center, including surveillance and consequences of violations.
  • Coordinate scheduling of students requiring accommodations in the testing center.
  • Develop and maintain websites for the center, test registration, availability, and scheduling of exams.
  • Provide long-term strategic planning for the testing center.
  • Coordinate services for students with disabilities under section 504 and the ADA.
  • Model and train staff to provide high-quality customer service and testing administration.
  • Implement safety and security procedures and protect academic integrity.
  • Collect and analyze data to improve testing center services.
  • Collaborate with enterprise technology systems to update and maintain testing technologies.

JOB PURPOSE:

The Accommodations & Testing Coordinator (ATC) is responsible for the daily operations and services of the Testing Center and serves as the primary point of contact for students with accommodations. Also, the ATC manages accommodations requests and is responsible for coordinating services for students with disabilities under the Rehabilitative Act Section 504. The ATC collaborates with Howard University faculty, staff, and external partners to meet the needs of various constituents by providing testing and disability support services that comply with Howard University policies and procedures and state and federal regulations.

SUPERVISORY ACCOUNTABILITY:

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities. However, the position is accountable for the day-to-day management of the testing center.

NATURE AND SCOPE:

The ATC’s position will interact with many internal and external stakeholders, including, but not limited to, parents, students, internal university leadership, and external stakeholders. External stakeholders may include but are not limited to the United States Department of Education, The Office of the State Superintendent of Washington DC. The ATC processes a wide variety of accommodation requests and other auxiliary support services for students with disabilities, including assistive technology and requests for alternate format text. The ATC will address the accommodations requirements of students enrolled in post-graduate and professional school programs with adherence to technical standards. The ATC will support and help maintain a standard office environment with a flexible work schedule to accommodate special programs and events.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Conduct intake interviews to determine students receiving services from the disability support unit
  • Review and evaluate documentation to determine eligibility for services
  • Coordinate scribe and interpreter services if needed
  • Ensure the university’s compliance with testing standards set by Middle States, FERPA, ADA guidelines, NCTA standards, and Howard University policies and procedures.
  • Develop, evaluate, and revise policies for the testing center including policies on scheduling, student identification, proctoring, video surveillance, academic integrity, and other policies as necessary to ensure that the testing center is following the best practices (NCTA)
  • Collaborate with faculty to develop policies and procedures regarding all aspects of academic integrity in the testing center including but not limited to surveillance of students during exams, reporting of violations to faculty and consequences of violations
  • Coordinate with the various departments to accommodate scheduling of students requiring accommodations in the testing center.
  • Coordinate the various aspects of the testing center, including developing and maintaining websites for the center, test registration and availability, and scheduling of exams
  • Provide long-term strategic planning for the testing center
  • Coordinate services for students with disabilities under section 504 of the rehabilitation act and well as the ADA
  • Model and train staff to provide high-quality customer service, effective testing administration, and testing support for diverse populations of faculty, university administrators, students, and paid customers
  • Implement safety and security procedures that protect academic integrity
  • Collect and analyze customer satisfaction, usage, placement, outcomes assessment, and related data to improve testing center services.
  • Collaborate with enterprise technology systems to ensure that all of the technologies needed to administer, report, and monitor testing services is updated and maintained.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of testing materials and examinee records while adhering to the University policies, the Family Educational Rights Act and other pertinent laws and regulations regarding information processed, stored, or accessed by systems is required
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Services and other university administrators

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate specialization (Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, Education, or other related field) and 1-3 years of professional experience in higher education preferred.
  • Master’s degree preferred.

Expected Salary Range: $60,000 - $65,000
