Gene By Gene, Ltd. in Houston is seeking an Accessioning Clerk to assist with sample receipt, sample check-in, and other clerical and operations functions for the laboratory.

This role supports critical workflows and ensures data integrity in a fast-paced environment. You will document sample receipt, open packages, inspect, sort, and route samples, and maintain accurate records in databases while collaborating with multiple departments to keep specimens correctly tracked and processed, while

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Receive and document receipt of samples.
• Open packages, inspect, sort, and route samples.
• Document and check samples in databases.
• Troubleshoot sample issues (missing data, mismatched barcodes, damaged samples).
• Maintain documentation for sample tracking.
• Assist with pickup of samples from USPS.
• Answer emails and questions from other departments.
• Scan received documents and organize files.

Position Overview

Gene By Gene, Ltd. in Houston is seeking an Accessioning Clerk to assist with sample receipt, sample check-in, and other clerical and operations functions for the laboratory.

Accountabilities and Responsibilities

• Receives and documents the receipt of samples into the laboratory.
• Opens sample packages and inspects, sorts, and routes the samples appropriately.
• Documents and checks samples into the correct databases.
• Troubleshoots issues with samples, such as missing or incorrect information, mismatched barcodes, unpaid accounts, damaged samples, incorrectly collected samples etc.
• Maintains documentation required for sample tracking through the department.
• Assists with pickup of samples from USPS

Lab Clerical Duties-15%

• Answers emails and questions from other departments.
• Scans received documents and maintains them in the appropriate file locations.
• Performs additional administrative and organizational tasks in the department as needed.

Lab Operations-10%

• Maintains cleanliness of the team area, including daily and weekly cleaning tasks (trash removal, sweeping of debris, wipe-down of work surfaces, etc.).
• Maintains organization of the team area, including filing and supply organization.
• Assists with some laboratory assistant-type functions, including tasks such as racking tips, filling tubes, washing racks, cleaning, and organization.

Position Requirements

• Previous experience demonstrating reliability, trustworthiness, and capability in a work environment
• Prior experience in a laboratory, medical, or high-volume data entry environment is preferred
• Strong computer proficiency with fast and accurate data entry skills (minimum typing speed of 40–50 WPM preferred).
• High attention to detail with a proven track record of maintaining exceptional accuracy during repetitive, routine tasks.
• Demonstrated capability in sample management, including safely handling, labeling, sorting, and logging specimens according to strict protocols.
• Strong comprehension skills with the ability to quickly learn, understand, and implement complex operational instructions and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision once trained, while maintaining high productivity.
• Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) for collaborating with team members and documenting discrepancies. Professional Integrity.
• High level of integrity and trustworthiness, with a strict commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and data security (HIPAA compliance).

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required
