Role Description The Accessibility Support Specialist is a full-time, on-site role based in the Greater Richmond Region, supporting Virginia Peninsula Community College’s commitment to inclusive education. This role focuses on coordinating and delivering accessibility services for students, including assisting with academic accommodations, accessible technology, and support resources. Day-to-day responsibilities include collaborating with faculty and staff to implement accessibility best practices, reviewing documentation to determine appropriate support, and guiding students in the use of assistive tools and services. The specialist will maintain accurate records, help ensure compliance with applicable accessibility and disability regulations, and contribute to training and outreach initiatives that promote an inclusive campus environment.
Qualifications

• Demonstrated knowledge of accessibility principles, disability services in higher education, and applicable laws and regulations (such as ADA and Section 504).
• Experience working directly with students or learners in an educational, counseling, or support role, preferably in a community college or similar setting.
• Ability to use and support assistive technologies and accessible digital tools, as well as basic proficiency with standard office and learning management software.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations and across departments.
• Solid organizational and time-management skills, including the ability to maintain detailed records, handle confidential information, and manage multiple priorities.
• Relevant education such as a bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, social work, disability studies, rehabilitation, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
• Commitment to equity, inclusion, and continuous improvement in accessibility practices; experience participating in training, outreach, or advocacy is a plus.
