Job summary

William Paterson University invites applications for an Access Services Librarian responsible for planning, organizing, and supervising Lending Services, reserves, and related patron services in a twelve‑month tenure‑track position.

The role includes supervision of staff, policy development, and collaboration with campus units to maintain accurate systems and data, along with ongoing professional development and service to diverse university communities.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (by time of appointment) – ALA accredited.
  • Second master’s degree required by time of application for tenure.
  • One year professional experience in an automated environment with circulation and course reserves.
  • Excellent oral, written, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Experience in an academic library and with diverse populations; knowledge of emerging technologies in Access Services.
  • Experience working with an integrated library system or services platform.
  • Demonstrated commitment to service and professional development.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes, and coordinates the Library’s Lending Services staff for circulation, reserves, scanners, stacks, and building maintenance, and related patron services.
  • Provides supervision, training, and support for Lending Services staff including full‑time and part‑time staff and student assistants; works with relevant Library and University units in developing policies and procedures for circulation and related services.
  • Develops and implements circulation, reserve, and copyright policies and procedures and communicates them to Library personnel and users.
  • Collaborates with Information Systems, Registrar’s Office, Student Accounts, and other campus departments to maintain accurate Banner database information and handles questions and concerns regarding Library policies and procedures.
  • Provides training and support for the integrated library system, including revisions of the policy file and circulation calendar.
  • Generates management reports and prepares statistical reports.
  • Maintains active awareness and knowledge of automated circulation processes, reciprocal borrowing, service enhancements, and copyright compliance.
  • Performs routine administrative functions within Lending Services, including scheduling and monitoring cash funds and reciprocal borrowing.
  • Stays up to date on new technologies, trends, and best practices in Access Services.
  • Participates in the general Reference Desk coverage rotation on weekdays and weekends, and in the User Education program.
  • Participates in the Library’s Liaison Program with assignment to given departments as liaison and content selector.
  • Serves on Library, University, regional and national committees as appropriate.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and appropriate for the position.

Salary and Benefits

Starting Salary – AFT Range 22 – $69,373.45–$79,781.83. This position may be eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, which includes health and dental insurance and retirement plans.
