Access Representative Per Diem
Emerg Dept Registration
The Access Representative Per Diem will:
- Fulfill patient registration requirements of Admission, Outpatient, and Emergency Department including accurate collection and recording of required information.
- Obtain legal signatures for consent for medical treatment in accordance with established Department and Hospital policy.
- Collect payment in full, including co-payment and deposits.
- Conduct a confidential, professional interview with the patient or legal next of kin, including an introduction and assessment of the patient/family member's emotional state.
- Provide concerned, informative, and supportive dialogue.
- Ensure the patient understands the hospital policies regarding their rights, with information disseminated based on patient needs.
- Arrange transportation for patients from the emergency department to their home or originating facility.
- Coordinate transfers from the emergency department to outside facilities, if needed.
- Assist medical practitioners with laboratory callbacks by contacting patients and calling in prescription orders to the patient's preferred pharmacy.
- Collect positive results of discharged patients and accurately log each attempted contact, including mailing certified letters if necessary.
- File, fax, and archive completed callbacks for medical records.
- Transcribe physician orders and accurately enter appropriate orders and tests into the clinical information system, demonstrating proficiency with downtime procedures.
- Answer telephones and direct calls appropriately following department guidelines.
- Maintain accurate, legible departmental logs and keep unit desk supplies stocked.
- Complete paperwork from the assigned shift and previous shift, and inform the next shift of incomplete assignments and critical information.
- Attend and participate in all mandatory staff meetings, in-service education, seminars, and training programs.
- Participate in department performance improvement projects and hospital initiatives.
Requirements:
- Ability to accurately type 25 words per minute.
- Strong computer skills and experience with MS Office and computer-based systems.
- Ability to quickly learn in-house patient record systems.
- Strong customer service and teamwork skills.
- Flexibility and willingness to work independently.
- Availability to work weekends and holidays.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
We offer competitive base rates, determined by job-related experience, internal equity, and industry data. Some positions may be eligible for additional pay such as clinical certification pay and shift differentials.
The listed salary range reflects full-time compensation and will be prorated based on employment status.
