Job summary

WK Medical Center in Shreveport, LA is seeking a Patient Access Manager to oversee daily operations of the Patient Access Department, ensuring excellent customer service, accurate patient registration, and compliant revenue cycle performance.

You will lead a team across shifts, develop workflows, monitor KPIs, and collaborate with clinical and business units to optimize patient flow and financial integrity of the organization.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years in Patient Access or healthcare operations.

Position Summary

The Patient Access Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Patient Access Department to ensure exceptional customer service, accurate patient registration, insurance verification, regulatory compliance, and optimal revenue cycle performance. This position provides leadership, direction, and support to Patient Access staff while promoting a patient-centered environment and ensuring efficient access to healthcare services.

The Patient Access Manager collaborates with clinical departments, physician offices, business office teams, and ancillary departments to facilitate seamless patient flow and maintain the financial integrity of the organization.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Leadership & Operations
  • Manage and supervise Patient Access staff across assigned areas and shifts.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels and coordinate schedules to meet operational needs.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and performance management for team members.
  • Develop and implement departmental workflows, policies, and procedures.
  • Monitor departmental productivity and key performance indicators.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and service excellence.
Patient Registration & Financial Clearance
  • Oversee patient registration, pre-registration, and insurance verification processes.
  • Ensure accurate collection of demographic, insurance, and financial information.
  • Monitor compliance with Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP) requirements and other regulatory guidelines.
  • Ensure timely collection of co-pays, deposits, and patient liabilities.
  • Assist with complex registration and financial clearance issues.
Revenue Cycle Support
  • Partner with Revenue Cycle, Business Office, and Clinical Departments to improve clean claim rates.
  • Monitor registration accuracy and reduce preventable denials.
  • Ensure timely resolution of insurance and patient account issues.
  • Support initiatives that improve reimbursement and financial performance.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
  • Conduct routine audits to ensure compliance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Promote HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality standards.
  • Monitor quality indicators and implement performance improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure staff adherence to organizational policies and patient safety standards.
Training & Staff Development
  • Coordinate onboarding and training of new Patient Access employees.
  • Provide ongoing education regarding insurance plans, eligibility verification, compliance requirements, and registration best practices.
  • Maintain competency standards for all Patient Access personnel.
  • Identify opportunities for professional development and succession planning.
Customer Service
  • Promote exceptional customer service and patient satisfaction.
  • Address patient concerns and service recovery opportunities promptly.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nursing, ancillary departments, and administrative leadership to resolve operational issues.
  • Maintain a welcoming and professional environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
Qualifications
Experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of Patient Access, Registration, Admitting, Revenue Cycle, or Healthcare Operations experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience with insurance verification, authorization processes, Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer requirements.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Strong leadership and team development skills.
  • Knowledge of healthcare registration and revenue cycle operations.
  • Understanding of Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurance, and authorization requirements.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Proficiency with healthcare information systems and Microsoft Office applications.
