Job summary

Berkshire Health Systems is seeking a patient admissions coordinator to interview patients and family members across inpatient and outpatient settings. The role requires accurate data entry into the registration system, verification for correct patient identification, and adherence to HIPAA.

You will assist with upfront cash collection and insurance processing. Ideal candidates have two years of college (secretarial/health related) or equivalent, plus Meditech experience.

Hourly Pay Range: 18.9500 through 28.4200

Every other weekend plus 3 days/week

Flexible person that could possibly cover an occasional 10-6 or 3-11 if staffing necessitated

DEFINITION/PRIMARY FUNCTION

• Courteously and promptly interviews patients and/or family members requiring inpatient or outpatient services at Fairview Hospital (FVH), during pre-admission, admission, while in-house or at discharge. The interview may take place in a variety of locations including bedside in the ED, Main Admitting or various outpatient locations. Accurately enters all demographic and insurance information into hospital registration system, performs various related verification functions to assure positive patient identification, complies with HIPAA privacy regulations, ensures accurate upfront cash collection and appropriate insurance reimbursement. When stationed in the Emergency Department, must appropriately respond to exceptional situations presented by physicians, nursing staff, patients, visitors, or the general public, with appropriate referral involvement of other health care professionals.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:

Admitting and Meditech experience preferred.

One year experience in hospital environment preferred.

Education and Training:

Two years of college (secretarial/health related) or equivalent work experience.

Medical terminology preferred.

License, Certification & Registration:

None.

Other Requirements:

Proven typing ability (40 wpm) and computer skills (i.e., Meditech).

Manual dexterity necessary for typing/computer purposes.

Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to speak the English language in a clearly understandable manner.

Ability to speak/understand Spanish preferred.

Ideal candidate will demonstrate and maintain a high level of flexibility.

Proven ability to interact appropriately with the community, hospital staff and physicians while maintaining a high level of confidentiality.

The minimum and maximum of the hourly pay range for this position is shown above. Actual rates of pay may vary based on a range of factors including but not limited to experience and qualifications.
