Responsibilities

DEFINITION/PRIMARY FUNCTION

Courteously and promptly interviews patients and/or family members requiring inpatient or outpatient services at Fairview Hospital (FVH), during pre-admission, admission, while in-house or at discharge. The interview may take place in a variety of locations including bedside in the ED, Main Admitting or various outpatient locations. Accurately enters all demographic and insurance information into hospital registration system, performs various related verification functions to assure positive patient identification, complies with HIPAA privacy regulations, ensures accurate upfront cash collection and appropriate insurance reimbursement. When stationed in the Emergency Department, must appropriately respond to exceptional situations presented by physicians, nursing staff, patients, visitors, or the general public, with appropriate referral involvement of other health care professionals.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (Minimum qualifications are required unless stated otherwise.)

Experience:

• Admitting and Meditech experience preferred.
• One year experience in hospital environment preferred.

Education and Training:

• Two years of college (secretarial/health related) or equivalent work experience.
• Medical terminology preferred.

License, Certification & Registration:

• None.

Other Requirements:

• Proven typing ability (40 wpm) and computer skills (i.e., Meditech).
• Manual dexterity necessary for typing/computer purposes.
• Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to speak the English language in a clearly understandable manner.
• Ability to speak/understand Spanish preferred.
