Job summary

Michigan State University College of Engineering seeks an entry-level designer to support FRIB operations. The role focuses on creating CAD designs and detailed drawings, using 2-D/3-D models, and contributing to fabrication, assembly, and commissioning of advanced heavy-ion accelerator equipment.

The candidate should hold a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related field with 1–3 years in drafting or fabrication.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or closely related field.
• One to three years of related experience in electronics, mechanical and/or electrical drafting and fabrication techniques, or computer programming in one or more languages used by FRIB.
• Experience with CAD/CAE and SolidWorks is desired.
• Familiarity with fabrication techniques, cryogenic systems, electronics, mechanical drafting, and computer systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Produce and document effective design solutions by developing concepts and creating CAD designs/details.
• Use 2-D and 3-D drawings and models to create detailed drawings including GD&T.
• Provide support for fabrication, assembly, and commissioning of technical equipment.
• Assist project leaders and SMEs to transform technical requirements into design solutions.
• Review design layouts, budgets, and project documentation for construction and testing.
