Job summary

PennWest California TRIO Upward Bound programs are seeking Academic Year Tutors to support area high school students through weekly after‑school sessions, campus Saturdays, online sessions, and field trips.

Tutors must have reliable transportation; compensation is $12.50 per hour; multiple sites and schedules may apply; this is on‑campus student employment, not federal work study. This is a meaningful paid opportunity to develop tutoring skills while helping students succeed academically.

Qualifications

• Applicants should possess tutoring skills and a desire to make a positive impact in the lives of area high school students.
• Tutors will be assigned to assist with Weekly After School Educational Sessions held at the local target high schools, designated Saturdays on PennWest California campus, through an online virtual platform, and/or as field trip chaperones.
• Must have their own reliable transportation. Additional compensation is built in to accommodate travel time.
• All majors are encouraged to apply; there is a strong need for math and science assistance during the academic year.
• This is not a federal work study position.

Responsibilities

• Tutor students during after school educational sessions at local high schools.
• Attend designated Saturdays on PennWest California campus for tutoring sessions.
• Chaperone field trips and support students during activities as scheduled.
• Coordinate with program staff about locations, times, and transportation needs.

PennWest California TRIO Upward Bound programs are seeking Academic Year Tutors. Applicants should possess tutoring skills and a desire to make a positive impact in the lives of area high school students. Tutors will be assigned to assist with Weekly After School Educational Sessions held at the local target high schools, designated Saturdays on PennWest California campus, through an online virtual platform, and/or as field trip chaperones.

• After School Educational Sessions are held weekly at the location and during the specific days, times and school listed below. Tutors may be placed at more than one school and must have their own reliable transportation. Additional compensation is built in to accommodate travel time. (2 hrs. paid per session).
  • Monday - Uniontown (2:45-4:15); Charleroi (2:15-3:45)
  • Tuesday - Brownsville (2:30-4:00); Albert Gallatin (2:15-3:45); Carmichaels (2:55-4:25)
  • Wednesday - Laurel Highlands (2:30-4:00); Waynesburg (3:10-4:40)
  • Thursday - Connellsville (2:30-4:00); Jefferson-Morgan (3:00-4:30); Monessen (2:15-3:45)
• Saturdays on PennWest California campus are held each month on the dates listed below. Each Saturday session will begin in the TRIO office, Manderino Suite 430 at 8:30am. Sessions conclude at 2:30pm.
  • Saturday, October 3, 2026
  • Saturday, December 5, 2026
  • Saturday, February 27, 2027
• Field Trip dates are identified below. Additional information about the field trips will be communicated in advance of each trip. Plan for an entire day.
  • Thursday, March 25, 2027 - TBD

Compensation is $12.50/hr.

All majors are encouraged to apply, but there is a strong need for math and science assistance during the academic year. *Specific days/times/locations are subject to change. Any changes will be communicated in advance.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain paid work experience that serves local high school students. This is not a federal work study position.
