Job summary

Linn-Benton Community College is seeking part-time tutors to support students across designated courses in both online and face-to-face settings. Tutors meet regularly with students, model effective learning strategies, and guide learners to resources while fostering self-reliance in academic work.

Training and CRLA certification are encouraged, with coordination with the Library & Learning Center Manager for program planning and student success.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of the course you wish to tutor, typically with an A or B grade.
• Instructor recommendation from an LBCC faculty member in the subject area.
• Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Responsibilities

• Meet with students during scheduled times to assist with course material.
• Facilitate learning by creating a supportive environment and identifying gaps in understanding.
• Promote group tutoring attendance and coordinate session notifications.
• Model diverse learning strategies and academic skills for students."
• Offer multiple approaches to help understand course concepts.
• Encourage self-reliance by directing students to textbooks and notes.
• Ask open-ended questions to gauge understanding; avoid lecturing.
• Collaborate with Library & Learning Center Manager to plan training, presentations, and shadowing sessions.
• Complete self-evaluations and maintain communication with the manager about tutoring issues and feedback.
• Create and curate learning materials and resources to support student success.
• Support students in achieving goals and refer to appropriate academic and student support services.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
