Job summary

StreetSquash in Harlem is seeking enthusiastic Contract Tutors to provide individualized academic support that helps students build confidence, strengthen skills, and achieve academic success.

The role focuses on literacy, math, and writing, with experience supporting diverse learners, including ELLs. Schedule is fall, winter and spring, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in literacy and/or mathematics.
  • Certified Teacher or Educational Intervention Professional with expertise in literacy and/or mathematics
  • Experience supporting students with diverse learning needs, including students with dyslexia, learning differences, and English Language Learners (ELLs)
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized academic support through one-on-one and small-group tutoring.
  • Partner with the Academic Support Team to develop and implement effective instructional strategies.
  • Foster a supportive and engaging learning environment that promotes student confidence and academic growth.
  • Communicate regularly with program staff regarding student progress, achievements, and concerns.
  • Maintain accurate Tutor Logs documenting student interactions, progress, and recommendations.
  • Administer periodic assessments and collaborate with staff to review student performance and identify areas for growth.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

About the Position

StreetSquash is seeking enthusiastic, dedicated, and mission-driven Contract Tutors to support our Academic Team. Tutors work closely with students to provide individualized academic support that helps them build confidence, strengthen skills, and achieve academic success.

The ideal candidate is passionate about education, committed to student growth, and able to build positive, supportive relationships with young people. Tutors are expected to help students meet or exceed grade-level expectations within their subject area while taking a sincere, active, and appropriate interest in each student's overall well-being.

Areas of Tutoring Expertise

We are seeking tutors with expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Reading intervention and literacy support, including students with dyslexia, learning differences, and English Language Learners (ELLs), including French- and Spanish-speaking students
  • ACT and Regents preparation
  • Advanced Mathematics and Science
  • Writing support (brainstorming, drafting, revising, editing, and essay development)
What You\'ll Do
  • Provide individualized academic support through one-on-one and small-group tutoring.

Compensation

$60–$69 per hour, commensurate with education and experience.

Schedule

School Year (Fall, Winter and Spring)

  • Tuesdays, Wednesday, and Thursdays
  • Approximately 3-6 hours per week, from 4:30 pm - 7:30 pm
  • Additional tutoring opportunities may become available based on program needs.
