Job summary

Michigan Department of Corrections seeks a qualified teacher to manage the classroom for prisoners behind the secure perimeter of a Level II/IV facility. The role requires a current, valid teaching certificate issued and endorsed by the Michigan Department of Education.

Job description

Job Description This position requires a current, valid teaching certificate issued and endorsed by the Michigan Department of Education. The teacher is a manager of prisoners in the classroom. Teacher must use good teaching practices to address the academic needs of all prisoners assigned to the class at the ABE, pre-GED and GED educational levels. The position is located behind the secure perimeter of a Level II/IV correctional facility. This position is also responsible for coordinating required testing of students. This teacher will oversee the pre-release programming for the facility and will be responsible for keeping instruction and resources in alignment with the departmental Re-Entry program.

Education

Possession of a bachelor's degree in a field of education.

Experience

No specific type or amount is required.

Alternate Education And Experience

Possession of current, appropriate Michigan teacher's certificate issued by the State Board of Education.

PLEASE NOTE: New hires to the Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC), along with former MDOC employees, returning after being away from the department for more than two years, will complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCET), either 40 hours or 80 hours of initial in-person training based on their level of offender contact and job classification. All new employees will complete additional online training at their facility to successfully complete their non-custody new employee training.
