Syracuse University in Syracuse, NY is seeking an Academic Support Specialist to provide comprehensive administrative support for the School of Art, including scheduling, financial operations, facilities coordination, and services for faculty and students.

The role partners with the school director to ensure smooth day-to-day operations; supports budget processes, travel arrangements, and building management for specialized workshops.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Considerable prior experience in administrative work; academic background/expertise preferred.
  • High level of organization skills; excellent written and oral communication; Word/Excel/Outlook; knowledge of PeopleSoft preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage class scheduling, final exams, and other classroom and studio assignments.
  • Enter and maintain class sections, verifying accurate posting of course information to MySlice; monitor enrollment.
  • Collect course syllabi and faculty performance evaluations; assist in faculty load worksheets; assist students with curricular needs including course overrides and substitutions.
  • Support the unit budget including payroll approvals, employee reimbursements, contracts, eprocurement, and pro-card reconciliations; facilitate travel arrangements for faculty and visiting artists.
  • Serve as the building manager for ComArt; coordinate maintenance, repairs, purchases, staffing and safety for specialized workshops (wood/metal shops, kilns, printmaking, foundry, metalsmithing).
  • Lead administrative activities including hiring and management of temporary employees, work-study students, and processing payroll; manage the director's calendar.

Job description

The Academic Support Specialist provides comprehensive administrative support for the School of Art, including academic scheduling, financial operations, facilities coordination, and faculty and student services, working closely with the director to ensure effective day-to-day operations of the school. This position is part of a bargaining unit and is represented by the union SEIU, Local 200United.

Responsibilities
  • Manage class scheduling, final exams, and other classroom and studio assignments; process approved curriculum changes and catalog updates.
  • Enter and maintain class sections, verifying accurate posting of course information to MySlice; monitor enrollment throughout registration periods.
  • Collect course syllabi and faculty performance evaluations; assist in faculty load worksheets; assist students with curricular needs including course overrides and substitutions.
  • Support the unit budget including payroll approvals, employee reimbursements, contracts, eprocurement, and pro-card reconciliations; facilitate travel arrangements for faculty and visiting artists.

Compensation: $20.87 – $26.78 per hour. Full-time, non-exempt role based in Syracuse, NY.
