Job summary

The Skola is seeking an Academic Support & Intervention Specialist to deliver targeted literacy and math interventions for K–5 and to oversee The Skola's tutoring program. The role collaborates with teachers, families, and the Director of Education to monitor progress and ensure students receive appropriate support and challenge.

This year-round position combines direct intervention, data-driven support, and tutoring program management, requiring strong organization and a collaborative approach

Job description

The Academic Support & Intervention Specialist provides targeted literacy and math intervention for students in Kindergarten through 5th Grade while supporting school-wide systems for student progress monitoring and academic growth.

The role works collaboratively with classroom teachers, families, specialists, and the Director of Education to identify student needs, implement intervention plans, monitor progress, and ensure students receive appropriate support and challenge.

In addition, the Academic Support & Intervention Specialist oversees The Skola's tutoring program, including direct tutoring services, scheduling, family communication, progress monitoring, and summer tutoring operations.

This is a year-round position that combines student intervention, data-driven support, and tutoring program management. A successful candidate will be highly organized, collaborative, and passionate about helping students grow academically while partnering effectively with teachers and families.

Core Responsibilities
School-Based Intervention & Student Support
Direct Student Intervention
  • Provide targeted literacy and math intervention for students in Kindergarten through 5th Grade.
  • Deliver individualized and small-group instruction based on student needs and goals.
  • Support students requiring additional intervention
  • Utilize evidence-based instructional practices and intervention strategies.
  • Develop and implement intervention plans that align with classroom instruction and student goals.
  • Foster student confidence, engagement, and independence through a strengths-based approach.
Progress Monitoring & Student Data
  • Maintain a caseload of students receiving intervention services.
  • Conduct ongoing progress monitoring and data collection for students needing intervention
  • Maintain accurate records related to intervention goals, student performance, and growth.
  • Analyze student data to guide instructional decisions and support planning.
  • Prepare progress reports and summaries for teachers, families, and school leadership.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Education and Leadership team regarding student outcomes, intervention effectiveness, and school-wide trends.
Teacher Collaboration
  • Partner closely with homeroom teachers to align intervention goals with classroom instruction.
  • Collaboratively identify students requiring support or intervention
  • Participate in student support meetings, data discussions, and instructional planning conversations.
  • Provide recommendations for accommodations, modifications, intervention strategies, and instructional supports.
  • Support implementation of school-wide intervention systems and practices.
Family Communication
  • Maintain regular communication with families regarding student goals, progress, and recommendations.
  • Partner with families to support learning and growth outside of intervention sessions.
  • Participate in family meetings as needed.
  • Ensure communication is clear, timely, and supportive.
Assessment & Admissions Support
  • Assist with academic screening and assessment of prospective students.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Education in reviewing assessment results and determining student support needs.
  • Support development and refinement of intervention, assessment, and progress-monitoring systems.
  • Assist with school-wide assessment administration and data collection as needed
  • Collaborate and participate in assessment data meetings
Tutoring Services & Program Coordination
Direct Tutoring Services
  • Provide approximately 15 hours per week of individualized tutoring services during the school year.
  • Deliver targeted literacy and math instruction based on student goals and needs.
  • Create individualized learning goals and instructional plans for tutoring students.
  • Maintain communication with families regarding progress, recommendations, and scheduling.
  • Monitor and document student growth.
Tutoring Program Oversight
  • Coordinate and oversee The Skola's tutoring program throughout the school year and summer.

  • Serve as the primary contact for tutoring inquiries and enrollment.

  • Schedule tutoring sessions and manage tutoring calendars.

  • Coordinate tutor assignments if additional tutors are utilized.

  • Maintain tutoring records, attendance, and communication systems.

  • Track tutoring participation and provide billing information to school administration.

  • Support enrollment growth and sustainability of the tutoring program.

  • Coordinate and oversee The Skola's summer tutoring program, including enrollment, scheduling, family communication, progress monitoring, and billing support.

  • Student data is organized, accurate, and used effectively to guide decision-making.

  • Tutoring students demonstrate meaningful progress toward their goals.

  • The tutoring program operates efficiently and sustainably throughout the school year and summer.

  • Direct tutoring services maintain sufficient enrollment to support program sustainability.

  • Students feel supported, confident, and successful in their learning.
