Job summary

Sam Houston State University seeks a Recovery Coach for the Academic Success Center. The student employee will provide structured learning support to help peers achieve academic recovery and engage with campus resources.

The role requires current SHSU enrollment (sophomore to graduate levels), strong communication skills, and availability for up to 15 weeks with some evenings/weekends. Position is in-person at the Newton Gresham Library, Fall 2026.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled at SHSU with a minimum 2.0 GPA.
• Demonstrate growth mindset and willingness to learn, execute and assess student academic needs.
• Strong interpersonal communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with diverse individuals.
• Ability to receive feedback from supervisor and colleagues and adapt.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one coaching with undergraduate students seeking to improve GPA.
• Assess needs to promote action-oriented strategies for student-clients.
• Provide summary reports and make referrals to campus resources as needed.
• Represent and support Academic Success Center initiatives (e.g., orientations, Welcome Week, classroom visits).
