Job summary

The University of Tampa is seeking an Academic Program Specialist within Student Accessibility Services to support students with disabilities through accommodation planning, documentation review, and case management.

You will collaborate with campus partners, deliver trainings on ADA compliance, and assist with exam accommodations and workshops, contributing to inclusive access and academic success.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in education or related discipline.
  • Knowledge of the ADA, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Fair Housing Act and FERPA.
  • At least two years of full-time professional experience working with individuals with disabilities in higher education.
  • Excellent written, oral, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with various areas within the Academic Success Center and other campus units.

Responsibilities

  • Develop accommodation plans for students with disabilities.
  • Review documentation and manage a large student caseload.
  • Provide one-on-one academic support to students with disabilities.
  • Train university stakeholders on accommodations and compliance (ADA/504).
  • Assist with accommodated exams and proctoring; help update SAS procedures.
  • Create and implement student workshops and programming.
  • Track data and report on caseload metrics.
  • Support the Director and SAS/ASC operations; contribute to campus initiatives.

Education

Master's Degree in education or related discipline

Position Details

Housed within the Academic Success Center, Student AccessibilityServices (SAS) at The University of Tampa has an opening for an Academic Program Specialist. This position will be responsible for duties related to Student Accessibility Services and will report to the Director of Student Accessibility Services.

Responsibilities
  1. Work with a range of students with documented disabilities tocreate accommodation plans regarding academic, housing, dietary,and other relevant accommodation areas.
  2. Responsible for reviewing documentation, conducting welcomemeetings, and general case management for a large caseload ofstudents, including both new and continuing undergraduate andgraduate student populations.
  3. Assist with providing one-on-one academic support to studentswith disabilities within assigned student caseload.
  4. Provide formal and informal training to a variety of Universitystakeholders regarding the accommodations process and how we ensureinstitutional compliance and equitable access relative to ADA andSection 504 Rehabilitation Act.
  5. Assist the department andTesting Center with accommodated examinations, such as serving as a reader/scribe, and assisting with mid-term and final examproctoring. Work as part of a team to maintain updated StudentAccessibility Services standard operating procedures.
  6. Create, develop, and implement student workshops and educationalprogramming associated with Student Accessibility Services and theAcademic Succes Center.
  7. Track and report on data from student caseload and affiliatedservices.
  8. Provide additional support to the Director as necessary; serveas a contributing member to SAS and ASC staff, assisting withoutreach and overall Center operations, as needed.
  9. Assist the Director with educational initiatives across campusrelated to Student Accessibility Services and the ADA.
  10. Help oversee daily operations of Student Accessibility Serviceswhen Director is absent.
  11. May teach one section each fall and spring semester of ASK100.
  12. Other duties as assigned.
  13. Contribute to a work environment that encourages knowledge of,respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of allcultures and backgrounds.
Qualifications
  1. Master's Degree in education, higher education, or relateddiscipline is required.
  2. In-depth knowledge of the ADA, Section 504 of the RehabilitationAct, the Fair Housing Act and FERPA.
  3. At least two years of full-time professional experience workingwith individuals with disabilities - experience with students withdisabilities in higher education preferred.
  4. Prior teaching experience preferred.
  5. Excellent written, oral,interpersonal and organizational skills as well as the ability toestablish priorities and manage time wisely.
  6. Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with variousareas within the Academic Success Center and other areas oncampus.
  7. Ability to work nights or weekends on an occasional basis.
  8. Knowledge of MS Office and computer database skills. Knowledgeof Accommodate by Symplicity, Work Day, and EAB Navigatepreferred.
  9. Willingness to embrace new technologies and innovativeorganizational practices.

Work Schedule

Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Summer: Monday-Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.
