The Division of Pediatric Surgery within the Department of Surgery at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry is seeking a full-time, board-eligible or board-certified Pediatric Surgeon to join a dynamic and growing practice of five Pediatric Surgeons. This position is available at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level and offers an exciting opportunity for a dedicated basic science researcher, clinician researcher or clinician educator to contribute to a well-established program with a commitment to excellence in patient care, academic productivity, and innovative education. The successful candidate will be passionate about programmatic development, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, and advancing the division's clinical and academic missions.
Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive surgical care to pediatric patients across the breadth of complex pediatric surgical conditions.
- Develop and maintain an independent or collaborative research program in an area relevant to pediatric surgery, with the goal of advancing scientific knowledge and improving patient care.
- Actively participate in the robust clinical practice of the Division of Pediatric Surgery, which performs approximately 1000 cases annually with consistent year-over-year growth.
- Collaborate effectively with a team of five Pediatric Surgeons, five advanced practice providers, and surgical residents from the University of Rochester Medical Center General Surgery program and Bassett Hospital.
- Contribute to the academic mission of the division through clinical outcomes research, quality and safety initiatives, trauma research, exploration of artificial intelligence applications in pediatric surgery, and through their own independent research endeavors.
- Engage in the mentorship and education of surgical residents and medical students, contributing to the division's innovative educational platform.
- Actively participate in multidisciplinary efforts to improve and streamline patient care, with a focus on enhancing equity and justice.
- Contribute to ongoing projects within the Division
- Play a key role in advancing the division's minimally invasive clinical program to a premier regional center.
- Demonstrate a commitment to intra- and interdisciplinary collaboration to optimize patient care and advance programmatic goals.
- Maintain excellent communication skills with patients, families, colleagues, and trainees.
- Exhibit intellectual curiosity and enthusiasm for innovative approaches to patient care and education.
- Pursue extramural funding opportunities to support their research program.
- Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at national and international conferences.
- Play a key role in advancing the national and international reputation of the of the Division of Pediatric Surgery
Qualifications:
- MD or equivalent medical degree.
- Completion of an accredited fellowship in Pediatric Surgery.
- Board eligible or board certified in Pediatric Surgery by the American Board of Surgery.
- Demonstrated commitment to programmatic development.
- Evidence of excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A strong interest in and aptitude for intra- and interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Intellectual curiosity and enthusiasm for innovative education of trainees and students.
- (Desired) An interest in advancing the minimally invasive clinical program including robotic surgery.
- (Desired) Interest and experience in securing extramural research funding.
