Job summary

Albany Medical Center's Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine seeks a Pathologists' Assistant to join our academic medical center, working alongside subspecialty pathologists, residents, and histology staff.

You will perform gross examination, dissection, sampling, and intraoperative consultations, while mentoring residents and contributing to education and laboratory practice in a busy environment.

Qualifications

• Perform gross examination, description, dissection, and sampling of a broad spectrum of surgical pathology specimens.
• Evaluate tissue for intraoperative consultation and frozen section with time-sensitive decisions.
• Document and photograph gross specimens with proper orientation and submission.
• Serve as a resource for difficult specimens and promote consistent grossing practices.
• Teach and mentor residents in gross examination and surgical pathology technique.
• Collaborate with pathologists, residents, histology staff, and leadership.
• Contribute to quality improvement, procedure development, and education initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Perform gross examination, description, dissection, and sampling of a broad spectrum of surgical pathology specimens.
• Evaluate and prepare tissue for intraoperative consultation and frozen section decisions.
• Photograph and document gross specimens with orientation accuracy.
• Mentor pathology residents and learners in grossing techniques.
• Collaborate with pathologists, residents, histology staff, and OR personnel.
• Participate in quality improvement, procedure development, and departmental initiatives.
