Qualifications

• Requires 90 college credits from an accredited college or university.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Valid Michigan teacher’s certificate preferred.
• Experience working with students with diverse learning needs.
• Understanding of curriculum standards or willingness to learn.
• Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with staff, students, and administration.
• Ability to support general education instructional staff.

Responsibilities

• Assists and guides students to reinforce reading, language arts, mathematics, computer instruction, and other skills.
• Works with students individually and in small groups to reinforce basic learning and implement programs.
• Assists professional staff in administration and correction of classroom exercises, tests, and assessments.
• Assists in classroom preparations and strategies for reinforcing instructional materials and skills.
• Documents student learning and performance.
• Maintains classroom behavior to minimize disruptions and keep students on task.
• Supervises non-instructional areas such as lunch, bus duty, playground, and study hall.
• Accompanies students on field trips for supervision.
• Distributes and uses educational materials as needed.
• Contacts parents to foster involvement in student education.
• Supports students with special needs in all classroom activities.
