Job summary

McGraw Hill is seeking an Academic Designer to develop high-quality literacy content for PreK-K, collaborating with the Academic Design team and Product Managers to shape solution design from concept to implementation. Remote work is available for applicants authorized to work in the United States.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in education or related field and 2+ years in literacy curriculum development, with strong knowledge of CCSS/CA CCSS and related standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, literacy, linguistics or related field is required.
• At least 2 years of experience in literacy curriculum development and educational publishing for Grades PreK-K.
• Strong subject matter expertise in foundational literacy skills, including decodability of texts.
• Knowledge of CCSS, CA CCSS, B.E.S.T., TEKS and related standards; up-to-date with pedagogical trends.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Plan and develop content for teacher and student materials, including print, digital, and media projects.
• Assist in prototypes, guidelines, proposals, and project scope documentation.
• Serve as liaison among vendors, engineering teams, and Academic Design teams.
• Demonstrate understanding of PreK-K literacy pedagogy and standards alignment.
• Produce high-quality, error-free products meeting curriculum standards and market requirements.
• Provide feedback to colleagues and vendors; identify risks and suggest process improvements.

How can you make an impact?

Academic Designers are content and curriculum experts. They assemble high-quality content based on specific product requirements for programs and understanding the solution design. They collaborate with the Academic Design team as well as Product Managers to help develop the solution design (both conceptualization and implementation).

This is a remote position open to applicants authorized to work for any employer within the United States.

Your contribution to the team includes:

• Plan and develop content (including learning objectives, scope/sequence, table of contents, lessons, videos, and teacher resources) for teacher and student materials-including print, digital, and media projects
• Assist in the development of prototypes, exemplars, guidelines, project proposals, and project scope documentation, as needed
• Act as the point of contact among vendors, internal engineering teams, and Academic Design teams
• Demonstrate a strong understanding of PreK-K Reading/Language Arts pedagogical issues
• Produce accurate, error-free, high-quality products that meet curriculum standards (including CCSS, CA CCSS, and other state standards), project scope, and market requirements and that display appropriate content, reading level, grammar, and style
• Provide feedback to the work of colleagues and vendors
• Solve problems by identifying risks related to an assignment and ensuring they are solved, including suggestions to improve processes
• Stay up to date on emerging educational/curriculum trends, educational technology, and research within the literacy field

We're looking for someone with:

• Bachelor's degree, preferably in elementary education, literacy, linguistics, or related field
• A minimum of 2 years of experience in literacy curriculum development and educational publishing with a focus on Grades PreK-K
• Subject matter expertise in foundational literacy skills, including decodability of texts
• Knowledge of appropriate industry and subject-area content development practices, content standards (such as CCSS, CA CCSS, B.E.S.T., and TEKS), and academic and pedagogical trends
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, which include a thorough command of the English language, spelling, writing, and grammar and a strong attention to detail
• Effective organizational and time-management skills; productive, efficient work habits and the ability to prioritize, multitask, and exhibit flexibility
• Understands digital learning, including authoring systems, accessibility, and testing
• Diverse computer skills, expert-level in MS Office suite, proficiency with Adobe Acrobat, Smartsheet, and K4/InCopy markup

A plus if you have:

• Experience as an educator or teacher
• Experience building accessible content in digital authoring systems
• Experience in Agile systems of delivery and Jira workflows
• Experience delivering quality and accuracy across fast-paced publication deadlines

The pay range for this position is between $60,000 - $70,000 annually. However, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location. A full range of medical and/or other benefits, depending on the position offered.
