Delta State University is seeking an Academic Counselor to dedicate 100% of time to a project. The role involves recruiting 1,000 participants, traveling across counties to conduct workshops, and delivering ACT prep, financial literacy, and enrollment support. You will assess educational needs and advise participants regarding postsecondary opportunities.
The counselor will also monitor progress, maintain case files, and collaborate with the Project Director. Open date 11/18/2025.
Reporting to the Project Director, this individual will dedicate 100% time and effort to the project, performing tasks directly related to the services and activities necessary to achieve the project’s objectives. Their duties and responsibilities will include attending professional development training and maintaining active memberships in state, regional, and national professional organizations. They will be responsible for recruiting and selecting at least 1,000 participants, as well as assessing the academic attainment levels, educational needs, and career interests of their assigned participants. The Counselor will administer career interest surveys where applicable and travel throughout 6 of the 12 counties within the service area to facilitate workshops and provide services, including ACT test preparation, financial literacy, financial aid application assistance, and post secondary enrollment application support. They will also administer surveys to evaluate the effectiveness of workshops and services, in addition to providing academic advising and making referrals for their assigned participants.
The Academic Counselor will also be responsible for monitoring the academic progress of their assigned pa11icipants and maintaining both physical and digital case management files. Additionally, they will perform other duties as assigned by the Project Director. This position will be housed on the campus of Delta State University.
