Responsibilities
- Assist with developing and processing necessary forms,documents, and systems, in cooperation with the Department ofEducation, Delta Educational Opportunity Center (DEOC) Director,Postsecondary institutions, and community organizations/groups inthe 12-county service area.
- Assist with the implementation and management of the process torecruit and select individuals to participate in the program.Includes the development and maintenance of media and marketingcampaigns including the use of social media outlets.
- Conduct one-on-one interviews and assessments to determineeligibility for program participants using college and careerreadiness assessments or Strong Interest Inventory.
- Monitor program participants in activities and tasks to completethe PEP successfully.
- Develop and implement a system to administer academic advisementand referrals to assigned participants.
- Coordinate and facilitate workshops on financial literacy,financial aid, ACT registration and other services needed byprogram participants, and partners.
- Support program participants with creating a ParticipantEducation Plan (PEP) for services needed.
- Assist in the development, implementation, and management of thesystems for collecting data and providing timely documentation forevaluating program outcomes.
- Work closely with the Office of Financial Aid, Student ServiceCenters, and Career Services at each of the community colleges anduniversities in the 12 county service area.
- Establish partnerships with adult education providers, socialservice organizations, and community-based programs with anacademic skills development focus.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Education, Sociology, Social Work, Psychology,or other field related to the position and experience in adulteducation programs. In addition, it is desirable for this person tohave:
- Experience in an adult educational setting.
- Experience with providing one-on-one academic or career guidanceto sensitive populations.
- Good listening, planning, conflict resolution andproblem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and oral communications.
- Excellent recruiting and retention abilities.
- Good working knowledge and familiarity of higher education,financial aid, GED and ACT testing and admissions.
- Good working knowledge and understanding of the psychological,behavioral, and educational issues affecting the learning potentialof low-income, first generation participants.
- Good working knowledge of developing individual education andcareer plans for sensitive populations.
- Willingness to regularly travel in the program service area andto attend state, regional and national conferences andworkshops.
- Ability to plan professional development opportunities andprovide technical assistance to program staff, partners, andprogram participants.
- A working knowledge of Window-based computer applications,including Microsoft Office Suite.
Salary
Commensurate with experience, qualifications, and university'sresources.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Sociology, Social Work, Psychology,or other field related to the position.
- Experience in adult and/or underrepresented participants' educationprograms.
- Valid driver's license and access to an insured motor vehicle forbusiness use.
- Availability to attend meetings, conferences or special eventsafter normal work hours and on weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in working with federally-funded programs.
- Experience in public promotions to persons from all socioeconomicconditions and communities.
- Experience with education and career assessment tools andprograms.
- Personal experience in overcoming or understanding disadvantagesand circumstances similar to the population served by theprogram.
- A commitment to working with diverse populations in the MississippiDelta especially economically disadvantaged populations, includinglow-income young adults, first-generation students, students with adisability, and non-traditional students.
