Job summary

Viterbo University in La Crosse, WI seeks an Academic and Career Advisor to support student academic and career success as part of the HUB for Student Success team. This full-time, 12-month role focuses on advising, career programming, tutoring coordination, and employer engagement to improve retention and graduation outcomes.

The advisor will manage a caseload, provide advising using the appreciative model, facilitate career resources including Handshake, and deliver career-related coursework

Qualifications

• Master's degree preferred; will consider candidates with bachelor's degree who possess relevant experience.
• Experience working in higher education, preferred experience in academic or career advising.

Responsibilities

• Manage caseload of freshmen, sophomores, transfer, and bachelor completion students.
• Provide balanced support grounded in appreciative advising to identify strengths, goals, and degree plans.
• Advise on curriculum, degree requirements, majors/minors/certificates, and engagement options.
• Serve as Academic Advising liaison to a college or school; support faculty advisor training.
• Utilize Starfish Early Alert to support and follow up with students.
• Plan HUB programming and career events; engage employers and visitors.
• Promote use of academic support resources and student engagement opportunities.
• Deliver career programming and employer visits; manage Handshake and related resources.
• Teach UNST 310 Career Preparation course (1 credit, half-semester).
• Coordinate tutoring and data/reporting; recruit tutors meeting eligibility.
• Develop resources for department website, handouts, and social media.
• Serve on university committees and support HUB initiatives.
