The role includes preanesthetic evaluation, intraoperative anesthesia, postoperative rounds, resuscitation and pain management, with opportunities to supervise CRNAs and participate in research and teaching.

The position supports a 12-month appointment with commensurate compensation and a focus on patient care, education, and scholarly activity within a premier university medical center.

Qualifications

• MD or DO degree.
• ABA Board eligible/certified in Anesthesiology and/or certified/eligible for Critical Care Certification.
• Eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in Virginia.
• Eligible for employment in the United States.
• Good communication, clinical and teaching skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with diverse populations.

Responsibilities

• Teaching: Provides bedside clinical teaching of residents, medical students, student nurse anesthetists and others; participates in didactic teaching programs and attends conferences and staff meetings.
• Research: May pursue clinical or laboratory research and other scholarly interests within guidelines; participate in clinical trials as appropriate.
• Service: May serve on departmental or university committees; fosters community service.
• Clinical: Provide clinical anesthesiology care including main Operating Rooms and ambulatory areas; supervise CRNAs as assigned.
