Job summary

Trinity University Upward Bound is seeking a full-time staff member to advise high school students on academics, career planning and college admissions, and to develop college-prep seminar curricula.

The role includes maintaining documentation, compiling annual performance reports, recruiting participants, and collaborating with schools. It also leads outreach to Spanish-speaking families through workshops and campus visits.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Social Work or related field.
  • Two years of teaching or academic advising experience.
  • Two years in direct service delivery to low-income, potential first-generation college students or students of color.
  • Written and oral fluency in Spanish.

  • Provides feedback to the Director regarding student's needs and concerns.
  • Lead outreach efforts to Spanish speaking families through the development and implementation of parent workshops and individual meetings.

JOB DUTIES
  • Advises high school participants regarding academic performance, career planning and college admissions in the schools and at the university.
  • Develops curriculum for college preparation seminar courses in both academic year and summer component.
  • Maintains documentation of program activities and compiles annual performance reports on program services.
  • Assists in the implementation of program services, including cultural enrichment field trips and campus visits.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES
  • Cooperates and collaborates with other employees in the spirit of teamwork and collegiality and interacts with confidence, patience and integrity to provide professional leadership during emergencies.
  • C omplies with all Trinity University policies and guidelines.
  • Candidates must be able to work on some Saturdays for Saturday learning sessions (in-person and/or virtually) with the students.
  • Performs other duties as required.
EDUCATION
  • Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Social Work or related field from an accredited institution.
EXPERIENCE
  • Required:
  • Two years of experience in teaching or academic advising.
  • Two years of experience in a position involving direct service delivery to low-income, potential first-generation college students or students of color.
  • Preferred:
  • Experience with TRIO students.
  • An understanding of the philosophy of the TRIO programs.
  • Written and oral fluency in Spanish.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Required:
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, presentation and organization skills. F
  • Fluency in Spanish.

Each member of the faculty, staff and student body is responsible for carrying out campus regulations, procedures and practices and shall comply with federal, state and local laws related to security matters while on the campus or in the course of representing or conducting University activities.

Maintaining and satisfying minimum attendance requirements are an essential requirement of this position, including working all full-time regular hours as established by the supervisor in addition to any scheduled or emergency overtime.
