JOB SUMMARY
The Educational Advisor I of TRIO Upward Bound Programs is the primary liaison between Saint Louis University, McCluer North public school district partners, participants, parents, and community representatives interested in the TRIO Upward Bound programs.
The advisor visits program schools to implement and manage day‑to‑day operations of the Upward Bound program, maintains program records, and prepares and submits time and effort reports. They also promote awareness of TRIO and related educational programs through presentations and networking.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assure that program activities for participants, parents, families, schools, and community partners are organized, monitored, and managed to meet goals and objectives by designing, developing, and directing all facets of the Upward Bound Program and Student Support Services in compliance with U.S. Department of Education guidelines and Saint Louis University grant proposals.
- Track expenditures and keep financial records in accordance with federal guidelines, ensuring all student records are complete, current, and confidential.
- Review program materials, monitor programming content, schedules, and budgets against program criteria, prepare federal reports, the continuation proposal, and attend meetings with the U.S. Department of Education Office as requested.
- Interview eligible students and collect and report data to assess the effectiveness of program components and evaluate the impact of the TRIO Upward Bound programs.
- Establish and maintain close working relationships with university representatives, federal agencies, target school faculty and administrators, and community agencies.
- Coordinate and evaluate the project to document progress in achieving funded objectives.
- Represent the Upward Bound programs by attending appropriate meetings, on and off campus.
- Facilitate the development of activities encouraging underrepresented populations to overcome barriers to postsecondary education, assisting the Assistant Vice President for Enrollment & Retention Management & Director of Pre‑College, TRIO & Access Programs with program preparation and implementation of funding opportunities.
- Provide direct academic support services to participants and supervise them at activities, cultural events, and trips.
- Encourage a work environment that fosters knowledge, respect, and skills to engage with people of diverse cultures or backgrounds.
- Remain competent and current through professional reading, contacting colleagues, attending professional development courses, and training required by the Assistant Vice President and Director of Pre‑College, TRIO & Access Programs.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the Program Director to ensure program success.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree.
- One or more years of experience working with disadvantaged individuals.
- Supervisory and training experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduate student in Education, Guidance and Counseling, Psychology, or related field.
- Prior TRIO experience.
- Bloomberg software experience.
- Experience working in an education setting.
