Temple University's Honors College is searching for an Academic Advisor I.

Salary Grade: T24

Job Summary:

The Temple University Honors Program is an interdisciplinary undergraduate program that fosters a supportive network of diverse and motivated scholars, guided by the following pillars: Intellectual Curiosity, Inclusive Community, Social Courage, and Integrity in Leadership.

To accomplish this, we offer in-depth seminar classes, a wide array of interactive co-curricular experiences, and personalized holistic advising - all within a dynamic and inclusive community. The Advisor I will provide specialized advising services for students in the Honors Program and assist with the day-to-day operations of our multi-faceted office. The Advisor I advises talented students in every school and college with multiple options and complex choices. They will act as an advocate and referral source, providing access to information, consistent outreach, and follow-up to support students' academic, career, and personal goals. The Advisor also serves as a liaison between students and faculty, staff, and administrators, helping resolve administrative issues while promoting student self-reliance.

Additional responsibilities include instructing Honors First-Year Seminars, developing co-curricular programs, supervising an Honors student organization, and participating in self-selected goals and projects to support Honors students. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

Bachelor's Degree and least six months advising experience in an academic setting in higher education. Demonstrated experience with public speaking in both large and small groups.

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal, customer service and organizational skills along with the ability to relate to a diverse group of students, faculty, and staff.
  • Demonstrated outstanding oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with high-achieving and gifted students who have wide-ranging academic needs and interests.Strong organizational skills as well as the ability to take initiative, work independently and as part of a team, and complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentation software.
  • Demonstrated understanding with automated student information systems, such as Banner.
  • Ability to learn new and emerging technologies.
  • Ability to work occasional weekend and evening hours when necessary.

Preferred

  • Student centered programming experience
  • Knowledge of student development theory.
