Job description

UNC Charlotte is hiring an Academic Advisor I to provide academic advising and support to assigned varsity student-athlete teams. This role involves guiding student-athletes through course selection, eligibility requirements, and academic progress while collaborating with coaches and assisting with admissions evaluations and NCAA compliance.

Highlights
  • Advise and support assigned varsity student-athlete teams, identifying and assisting those academically at risk.
  • Maintain current knowledge of academic rules, University and NCAA procedures, and university systems like Slate, DegreeWorks, Banner, and Connect/EAB.
  • Assist student-athletes with course selection, major/minor choices, eligibility, and academic planning.
  • Manage student-athlete academic and degree progress records and compile academic eligibility reports.
  • Monitor and report study hall attendance; coordinate with the Athletics Compliance office on NCAA eligibility status.
  • Conduct preliminary undergraduate transfer evaluations for admissibility and degree applicability.
  • Teach at least one University Transitions Seminar (UCOL) course annually designed for varsity student-athletes.
  • Required: Master's degree and at least one year experience in athletic academic advising.
  • Preferred: 1-2 years advising NCAA Division I student-athletes or 4 semesters working in a similar capacity as a graduate assistant/intern; strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Salary starting at $55,000 annually; position is full-time, permanent with occasional evening/weekend hours.
